Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime

Camp Theatre presents
Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime

by Oscar Wilde

Friday 26th October 2018

7.30 pm

Lane Theatre is to play host to another fantastic production from Camp Theatre.

Lord Arthur Savile, a wealthy young man, is blissfully happy as he approaches his impending marriage to Sybil but her mother, Lady Julia is less enthusiastic. To ensure that he will be faithful she enlists the services of a palm reader to guarantee a blameless married life. Unknown to his future mother-in-law Lord Arthur learns that he is to commit a murder. Determined to commit the act BEFORE the wedding he plans to rid himself of either his charming old aunt with a gambling problem or his uncle, the Dean of Paddington. Aided by his faithful butler and an eccentric Russian anarchist he embarks on a campaign that involves poisoning, explosions and violent death. Will he succeed? How many times can a wedding be postponed? And why does Lord Arthur have an imaginary dog? Adapted by Constance Cox from a short story by Oscar Wilde this charming comedy is packed full of Wildean wit with a rich cast of characters.

The Camp Theatre Company was formed in 1994 and is a not for profit Community Theatre Company that has raised over £55,000 for a variety of local, national and international charities with the profits made from more than fifty productions. The company has been touring for over ten years and has been a regular feature at The Lane Theatre for the last few years. Sterts Theatre is East Cornwall’s premier theatre venue with its 400 seat tented amphitheatre playing host to a wide range of visiting theatre companies, musicians, dancers and comedians over the past thirty years as well as producing several “In House” productions each summer. The two company’s last co-production was “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” which toured the South West in 2007.

Raymond Froggatt
and his Frog Band

Saturday 22nd September 2018
7.00 pm

Froggie, as he is known by his army of fans, started his working days as a pipe lagger, night time would be spent singing in the pubs and secretly writing poetry in his spare time, a great talent that maybe would have stayed hidden if not for the illness. Once he started to recover from his illness Froggie decided to advertise for musicians to put together a Band, four very talented musicians called The Monopoly were to become Froggie’s new Band.

Before long Froggie became signed to the top record companies of the time POLYDOR, BELL, JET WARNER, his writing talents also led to his signing to major publishing houses a great honour as his songs were being recorded by artist all over the country and abroad. CLIFF RICHARD, DAVE CLARK FIVE to name but a few.

Froggie & his concerts are sold out across the country and abroad, the Froggie followers arrive at the shows clutching their frogs with green scarves waving, certainly a sight to behold. Froggie writes and sings his own songs mesmerising his audience, making them laugh with one of his many stories or cry with emotion with a song that touches the heart like no other. Raymond also released another album of songs to coincide with this new tour. An evening with Raymond Froggatt is pure magic, an evening not to be missed.

There will be a one day tournament on Friday with knock-out stages and final followed by live music. Saturday and Sunday will play host to a two day tournament with Saturday’s results determining the groups for Sunday’s leagues which progress to knockout stages and floodlit final.
