Schedule

21:30 – 22:00  Mac & Laura

22:15 – 23:00 Ciiten

23:15 – 00:00 Grizzly Millions

00:15 – 01:00 Grenaways

Mac & Laura

Mac and Laura, bring an uplifting blend of American and British alternative folk, with country bluegrass roots and harmonies that are rich and dynamic. The  husband/wife duo met in North Carolina 2012. September 2017 saw the release of Mac and Laura’s EP ‘First Light’ recorded with folk producer Andy Bell (Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson).

CiiTTEN

Cat Whatley, aka Ciitten, is a British singer, songwriter and musician based in Cornwall. Having moved to Cornwall from London, Cat has used her music to truly express herself. Her lyrics are unapologetically honest, drawing on personal experiences to create her 90s inspired melodies. Highlighting personal battles with social anxiety, she shares them with the world and helps bring mental health issues to the forefront.

THE GRIZZLY MILLIONS

Grizzly Millions – A three piece from North Cornwall delivering big melodies and cunning stories wrapped up with powerful riffs.  It’s kinda rock, but with a little bit of blues and a healthy dose of soul.  In fact you are best off coming to see us and making up you own mind.

THE GRENAWAYS

The Grenaways could be said to be mining the rich veins of inspirational ore that course through their home turf of Cornwall where they add a sense of their own ties to the region and especially it’s Celtic heritage. But, they are a band set for far wider horizons with a massive and alternative sound billowing through their musical sails.  They are rootsy storytellers, unique in the folk style, with songs that are rich in nautical undertones, influenced so much by the sea, its people and coastal living.

Newquay Beer Festival 2018

By Andrew | Published September 14, 2018

Newquay Towan Blystra Lions welcome you to the Newquay Beer Festival, an event where you can enjoy sampling over 50 different beers from across Cornwall and the rest of the country.

It’s a must for beer fans from near and far and, as a real bonus for those who love to soak up all the atmosphere and not worry about having to find their way home, there is onside camping and motorhome pitches at great prices.

In fact, a couple wanting to turn up with their motorhome and have a pitch with a power hookup for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus three days entry to the beer festival with souvenir unbreakable glasses, programme and tasting guide, will pay a total of just £64! PLUS, CAMRA members can benefit from even lower entry prices to the festival.

But the beer isn’t the only attraction. There’s entertainment on throughout the event plus trade and charity stalls. We will be announcing the acts as they are confirmed and the list of beers we plan to offer will also be posted online as we approach the festival.

Crantock Bale Push

By Andrew | Published September 6, 2018

Crantock’s iconic Bale Man returns to his usual pre-event location just by the Crantock turning off the A3075.

The Bale Push 2018 starts rolling in Crantock Village on Friday September 14th at 5pm, and this year is supporting FLEET [Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust] in memory of Phil Eustice, SANDS [Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity] in memory of Dexter Hughes and Young People Cornwall to support their work with Cornish children, as well as other local groups and organisations.

‘It’s great to see the Bale Push Man back again for the nineteenth year in a row – he always brings a smile to people’s faces, in fact we have supporters asking where he is and when will he be ready?” said Chairperson, Nigel Eustice.

‘We look forward to seeing teams and spectators ready to roll the round straw bale from 5 pm with the Under 8’s followed by the Under 12’s, Under 16’s, also the Ladies race, who all race each other over shorter distances’, then, of course, the big ones in the Open, and the Veterans Races. Both these races are over the full quarter of a mile through the village up and down hills, pushing a full size round bale of straw, weighing approximately 420lbs and measuring 4′ 6″ in diameter starting and finishing between the two village pubs, The Old Albion and the Cornishman who also support the village so much socially, especially on Bale Push night with live music from Andy Marshall, Steve Winchester and Black Friday and fun for all!’

Crantock Bale Push has now become an essential part of Crantock life providing great fun, excitement and healthy competition for all ages, while also raising much welcomed funds for local charities and organisations. The total raised by the Crantock Bale Push since 2000 now tops an astonishing £100,478.

Remember, you don’t have to be mad to take part – but it helps!”
