Sundowner Session: Matt Woods – Lusty Glaze

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

From singing in the choir at Truro cathedral, to charming the airwaves of BBC Radio 1, Cornwall born Matt Woods is a star on the rise. His future-soul track, “Ain’t No Use” is a lush and powerful musical experience, with a deep soulful approach, directed towards moving on. The tracks’ honest direction and expressive weight delivered by Woods, creates a bittersweet melody that is as addictive as the intent behind the track. “There’s a difference between getting over someone, and choosing to move on from them. The track is about accepting that some people will always have a hold over you no matter how much you’d like them not to.” Talking recently to BBC Introducing’s David White, Matt shared his plans to spend time writing towards his debut album in LA in the new year. He’s in no rush though, determined to make the finished product one to remember. We’re so excited Matt has agreed to do a show with us. Somewhat of a homecoming gig with this roots now firmly planted in London, this show is going to be the perfect finale to a truly exciting spring season of shows.

Sundowner Session: An Evening with… William the Conqueror

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

A regular at the beach and a firm favourite. We’ve invited William to not only perform, but curate the entire evening. He’ll be inviting some of his favourite acts to perform on the night and he might even showcase some of his eagerly awaited new album. It takes patience to trawl the gig circuit for years before committing anything to record or even telling anyone about it, but William The Conqueror is old school like that… a home grown and honest talent. His raw guitars, roomy drums, honky pianos and scuffed bluesy vocals cutting through the nonsense with wit and wisdom. The end result is a wonderful sound, born and bred on the wild coasts of Cornwall. When we hosted the full band back in 2015 the show sold out super quickly so don’t leave it too long for tickets!

Sundowner Session: Tenors Encore – Lusty Glaze

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

Yes, that’s right – these marvelous gentlemen will be returning to Lusty Glaze Beach on 21st April 2017.
All of us down here agreed that hearing a candlelit rendition of Nessun Dorma on the beach was just so mesmerizing that we’d do anything to relive the moment, so we sprung into action straight away. Before the night was even over, we were excitedly hatching plans for their next show!
It seems that the three tenors, all of whom have each played lead roles in West End shows, couldn’t wait to come back either. Anthony Flaum, who trained with the English National Opera, tweeted his joy about playing such a breathtaking venue and his desire to return, tweeting, “The sunsets were thank you enough… thanks also to the beautiful audience too! #wewillbeback
We’re not afraid to say that the seafood banquet our guests dined on was the absolute bees knees – lobster, crab, oysters, salmon, shrimp, it was truly sensational. We’re all about pushing the boat out and mixing it up so this time, we’ll be laying on a premium springtime banquet. In true Lusty Glaze fashion, there will be flowing champagne, lots of candles and beautiful blooms!
Now, if only we didn’t have to wait until April…

Sundowner Session: Kaj – Lusty Glaze

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

One of the biggest smiles in music, with some of the greatest talent hiding behind it!

Kaj Music – Friday 14th April 2017

Norwegian born Kaj (pronounced ‘Kye’) grew up in London and Cornwall. He played in his family band since the age of seven, where he mastered piano, guitar and vocal.

Now a full-time solo performer, he regularly plays throughout Cornwall. As an original songwriter Kaj has supported the Guillemots, Pete Murray, Finley Quaye and most recently Xavier Rudd. He is as much at home playing other people’s songs as writing his own. Known for his upbeat, lively gigs, Kaj always strikes up a great rapport with his audience.

We’re excited to have him back at the beach. A rare chance to hear him outside of a private function.

Sundowner Session: Rose Kimberley – Lusty Glaze

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

Rose Kimberley has performed as a singer and songwriter since age 16. After completing a degree in Dance at Roehampton University in 2006, Rose moved from Cornwall to Surrey to pursue a career in music.

Whilst writing and performing with her originals band ‘Maker’, she worked at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford as the education co-ordinator for the vocal department until 2009. The opportunity to work with industry professionals (such as Sam Brown and Anne Bailey) inspired Rose to begin working as a session singer. Rose has toured internationally as a backing vocalist for American pop singer Olivia Somerlyn, supporting both Meghan Trainor and Lindsay Stirling. She has also provided vocals (live and studio) and co-writed with various other artists. Other credits include Peter Cox (Go West), John James Newman (The Voice), ERIKA (MIKA, Skunk Anansie) and Nat Martin. Rose’s vocals on Nat Martins 2016 EP ‘Time Is A Healer’ have been aired on Paul Jones’ Radio 2 show.

Rose performs regularly for some of the UK’s top function bands including Motown Supreme, Platinum, 29 Fingers, Chuck Chandler and the Go Go Five among others.

Known for her warm tone and strong emotional delivery, Rose has a unique quality to her voice. She is also very versatile and is able to sing in variety of different styles and emulate other artists where required.

TESTIMONIALS.

“Rose sang with me on the sessions for my album ‘Riding the Blinds’. She has a great ear, takes direction well and with good grace and is a pleasure to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to call her again.” Peter Cox (Singer, Go West)

“Rose Kimberley is a singer of incredible talent who is able to turn her voice to a range of styles and musical scenarios making her a very versatile musician. Wholly reliable and very easy and open to work with, Rose is very dedicated to ensuring that her vocals are of the upmost quality. Rose is also great fun to be around and this makes working with her great! I would not hesitate to recommend Rose for any line of musical work based on her long list of attributes” Nathaniel Martin (Guitarist, NMB)

“I have worked with Rose many times and have always found her to be a truly dedicated and creative artist. Because she has a dance background, she not only makes a good sound but is also good to watch. Recommended.” Adam Pain (Freelance Musician and Producer)

“Rose has great tone, time and feel, but her power is most significant – she hits you straight off the bat. She works hard, is professional and most importantly, Rose is a wonderful person right from inside – you really can’t ask for more.” Joe Yoshida (Drummer – Independent)

“I’ve worked with Rose doing a couple of session lead vocal tracks and was very impressed by both the quality of her voice and the speed she learnt the tracks. One track in particular, she nailed the complex melody where other singers had failed. The tone of her voice is stunning and versatile and she was great fun to work with as well.” Sam Smith (Songwriter and Producer)

Sundowner Session: Winter Mountain – Lusty Glaze

By Andrew | Published January 26, 2017

Cornish singer/songwriter Joe Francis is Winter Mountain. From support at our summer headline shows, to intimate Woodburner sessions next to the log burner, Joe is no stranger to the beach. His music is a blend of melodic songs, an extraordinary voice and heartfelt lyrics in a sound reminiscent of a time before digital recording, when the emphasis fell on the importance of live performance and the essence of the song.
Winter Mountain released a self-titled debut album in 2013 to unanimous critical acclaim with The Sunday Express stating it to be ‘an utterly fabulous record’ and awarding it a 5-star review.
Tracks from Winter Mountain’s debut album still receive regular national radio play from the likes of Janice Long, Dermot O’Leary, Clare Balding (BBC Radio 2), on RTE Radio 1 and from local stations in both the UK and Ireland.
Recent times have seen Winter Mountain contributing vocals to Seth Lakeman’s most recent album ‘Word of mouth’ and Cara Dillon’s ‘Thousand Hearts’ album. Joining us as part of his UK spring tour, he is the perfect way to kick off a calendar of personal, intimate and memorable shows.

Local support acts to be announced.
