Rainbow Run Newquay 2017

Rainbow Run Newquay 2017 – Raising money for Children’s Hospice South West.

Cornwall’s Most Colourful 5k Run Returns this Summer

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) annual Rainbow Run is returning on Sunday 25th June at 1pm to RAF St Mawgan in Newquay and over 1500 people have already signed up to be a part of it.

Sponsored by Ann’s Cottage, the event is a 5km sponsored fun run which participants can walk, jog or run. The unique element of the event being that as runners make their way around they will get covered in different coloured powder paint as they go through the 5 paint stations along the route.

There will be a 4km route for 5 – 10 year olds and their accompanying adults.

This is the fourth year that the charity has put the event on in Cornwall and over the past three years 4000 people have taken part and it has raised almost £200,000 for CHSW.

Anyone from the age of five years can take part and through sponsorship can help to raise as much money as possible for CHSW which offers care and support to children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses and their families. CHSW has three children’s hospices including Little Harbour in St Austell which has now been open for five years and supports almost 100 families from across Cornwall and Plymouth.

One mum, when speaking about her experience of using Little Harbour with her family said:
“They are an integral part of our family life and we look forward to each and every visit. For me, I know that there is someone always at the end of the telephone with a sympathetic, understanding ear. I can’t thank them enough.”

Whether you fancy taking part with family, friends or colleagues if you haven’t experienced a Rainbow Run before then this is your opportunity and if you have done it before and loved it then why not get involved again?

Kiley Tellam, Events Fundraiser for CHSW said “We are really excited for the return of our Rainbow Run and it is absolutely fantastic to have so many people already signed up. It is always such a popular event and the atmosphere on the day is full of excitement and good spirit from everyone involved. If you want to take part get registered now while there are still places available!”

Registration costs £17.50 for an adult, £11 for a child, £51.30 for a family and groups of 10 cost £157.50 Simply visit www.chsw.org.uk/rainbownewquay to register and for information on how to get your fundraising started.

The Masked Ball @ Porthleven

By Andrew | Published May 19, 2017

The Masked Ball is a spectacular all night party staged in Cornwall by some friends and since its conception in 2006 it has grown into a multilevel party kingdom where themed venues range from outrageous to downright unsavoury and spectacular, where a mélange of fascinating entertainment emanates from the many nooks and crannies in the ultimate ringmaster’s den of iniquity: myriad rooms, dens, dance floors, hidden bars, bathtubs, world-class dance clubs and an unrivaled line-up of underground international DJs…

Cornwall’s biggest dance music festival has added some huge new names to the line-up for its summer shindig.

The Masked Ball is going full steam ahead this May by offering thrill seekers a trip like no other – a time-travelling train journey into The Underworld on a site carved into a stunning clifftop location in West Cornwall.

And now its has added some real giants of the electronic music scene to its already bouncing line-up.

Masked Ball director Kelvin Batt said: “We’re delighted to add Hot Chip and Craig Richards to the already steaming Grand Ball Room disco line-up. Hot Chip will be joining Craig, San Francisco gay techno pioneers Honey Soundsystem and ball residents Horse Meat Disco.”

Acts previously confirmed included a smattering of Masked Ball favourites, brushed up with a roster of exciting new acts including: DJ Marky and MC GQ, 45 Live, Austin Ato, Bocawoody, DJ Food, Dicky Trisco and Pete Herbert, Durty Disco, Felix Dickinson, Honey Soundsystem, Horse Meat Disco, Jelly Jazz, Justin Robertson, Loose People, LTJ Experience, Man Power, Norman Jay MBE, PBR Streetgang, Psychemajik, Shit Robot, Spiritual South, Space Echo and Tiger and Woods.

Kelvin added: “A Voyage Through The Underworld is a new concept that we’ve been working on for a while and are really lucky to be able to say that we can roll it out this year. We’ve got a train to pick people up at Masked Ball Central Station and transport them around a series of themed venues, where they can hop off where they like – and really go off the rails. I think everyone’s going to be pretty blown away!”

“It’s a full journey and we know that’s what the Balllers want – back to the tunnels and shenanigans instead of a stage with some music coming out of it. We want to present a sensory overload.”

In keeping with Masked Ball tradition, some of the venues are being kept hush-hush, but organisers have revealed the train’s stops will include a 1930s speakeasy club, a 1970s Bristol Dub Club, a 1970s New York disco, and a vintage hip hop joint.

Kelvin added: “This is like a journey through a musical museum. You buy your ticket, take the ride and get off at a venue that takes your fancy. Just make sure you mind the gap.”

In addition to the party towns on the magical mystery tour, the Masked Ball will also feature the multi-chandeliered and draped Grand Ballroom and The Terrace that overlooks the spectacular Mount’s Bay. Also returning will be The Garden with its twisting trees, vegetarian Disco J and revellers will be able to revisit Balls Deeper – at a venue entered via slide into a giant ball pool.

The Masked Ball will also be going back to Bedlam, the pimped-out pyjama party accessed through a wardrobe featuring a maze of beds and cuddly toys – which proved a huge hit a few years back – and descended into a huge pillow fight, where feathers flew.

“We’re taking the Masked Ball back to its roots,” said Kelvin. “We’re focussing on the event and shenanigans so we can immerse the ballers more in the surroundings.”

The Summer Masked Ball takes place from Friday, May 26, to Sunday, May 28, at Beacon Crag, Porthleven, TR13 9LA.

The Friday night warms up with a long table feast in the Grand Ballroom followed by dancing until the early hours. Saturday is the main event running from 6pm until 6am, while the Sunday Service starts for the dedicated decadent at noon, ending and midnight.

Tickets for the full weekend, including the Friday feast, are now on sale at £69. Original Masked Ball tickets to include camping for both Saturday and Sunday are £55.

The Masked Ball isn’t just about the music, its a surreal and strange sideshow in a night time wonderland. A myriad of rooms, dance floors, dens, hidden bars and unpredictable nano-venues.

The Underworld

Arrive at the portal after dusk and take a journey through dark tunnels transporting you into iconic venues and the legendary parties that happened within their walls..you could journey into a Brixton Squat in the 80s, Chicago blues club in the 40s or iconic New York discos in the late 70s.

The Grand Ball Room

The original ball room. The crown jewel of The Ball since 2006 cut into the cliffs of the manor garden. With stunning views over Mounts Bay expect the red carpet, chandeliers and boogieing until dawn.

The Garden

Disco till Dawn a little piece of New York cool comes to Cornwall. Attention-whore hipsters, rowdy lesbians and off-duty DJs compete for space on the dance floor ft. music from some of the finest collectives in the South.

The Deck

Cut into the Cliffside in 2012 one of the most beautifully situated venues with stunning views over the Atlantic and solid musical curation by the South West’s funkiest promoters Jelly Jazz. An especially popular place on Sunday to slurp copious amounts of hangover-battling bloodies.

Durty Disco – The Samurai Temple

Delicate pink blossom floats under the crisp blue sky in a tranquil setting in the mountains of Japan. In the distance a harsh but clean thudding incises the ears. Your horses nostrils flair as a sharp kick to the ribs jolts him forward. Deep bass and piercing treble hits you like a solid wall as your horse slides to a halt. People flooding the streets like water pouring over the broken banks of a river, climbing and clambering over one another to achieve their ultimate goal. Bells clang and crowds separate and two by two the mighty samurai approach through a sea of red and black lanterns hanging like vultures overhead. Marching towards the temple engulfed by the din of the crowd the samurai halt. Silence ensues as the sea of bodies watching, willing, waiting…

Kernow Springs Eco Spa

Kernow Springs Eco Spa return to the ball for another year. Their wood burning hot tubs, Sauna yurt, showers and chill out lounge are guaranteed to add a little more glam to your Ball. Read more and book here.

As many of you will know we always support Cornish based charities, organisations and individuals. We feel it is important that all as the money is raised in Cornwall it should made available to help Cornish people. As there are so many good causes to support it is always difficult to make a final decision and this year has been no exception!

However, for the 2017 Bale Push we have chosen Crantock Christmas Lights, Cubert School PTA and CLIC Sargent as our main organisations. Here is a little information about each one….

CRANTOCK CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

It was decided that Crantock Village needed new lights to brighten up our lovely village during the festive period. So, a small group of merry fundraisers has set out to raise funds for to purchase new lights.

CUBERT SCHOOL PTA

Cubert School is extending its classroom provision and the new classrooms and play areas will be completed shortly. The PTA are at present very busy fundraising to provide new equipment for the play areas – they have lots of events planned this summer for example quizzes, a Summer Fete and Duck Races at Holywell Beach. The Bale Push supported Cubert School Football Team as few year back so new built almost ready so we have decided to help!

CLIC SARGENT

We have not supported CLIC Sargent for several years and decided that it was time to put this right! This fabulous charity provides a holistic approach to supporting children and their families, with a network of support throughout the UK providing immediate help to those in need. The Royal Cornwall Hospital has a specially dedicated Ward, treatment areas, specialist nurses, social workers and doctors to support the child and families from throughout the treatment process. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families. Our care teams have been providing specialist support across the UK for years. With its hilarious characters, streaks of dark humour and unforgettable plot twist, The Third Policeman earned its author, Flann O’Brien, a world-wide reputation as one of Ireland’s great comic geniuses.

Flann O’Brien’s scorching wit and delicious turn of phrase, combined with Miracle’s delight in physical comedy and absurdity, has to be a winning combination. Fans of this cult classic and newcomers alike should expect the unexpected!

La Dame Blanche @ Eco Park

By Andrew | Published May 12, 2017

La Dame Blanche, Friday 26th May, doors open from 7:30pm
Live music from international artist from Cuba in our beautiful Timber Barn with live Djs until 1am

With her explosive mix of hip hop, cumbia, dancehall and reggae, the Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka La Dame Blanche delivers a powerful and compelling sound which summons the spirits.

The smoke of an inaugural cigar prior to setting foot on set, a glass of rum left backstage, necklaces, white flowers, a pristine turban: for her appearances on stage, la Dame Blanche feeds the energy of the spirits of Santeria, her Afro-Cuban religion. Born in Havana, she grew up in the heart of an awe inspiring musical cauldron that included her father, Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos; an exceptional trombonist and the artistic director of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club.

After moving to Paris, she sang in the all-girl salsa band Rumbana, joined the Grand Orchestre du Splendid, became a backing singer for Sergent Garcia and a live singer for El Hijo de la Cumbia… experiences that have all gone on to form the extraordinary reggae, dancehall, cumbia, moombathon fusion that is La Dame Blanche.

Tickets for this gig are £12 and are available by clicking the link below or by calling the Eco Park Box Office on 01209 891500 (Tues-Fri during office hours)

The Eco Park’s Cantina Cafe will be serving a Cuban inspired freshly made, delicious, Vegetarian and Vegan meal from 7:30pm onwards.  More details are coming soon! Book ahead to join us for something to eat by emailing sophie@mpecopark.co.uk (£10 pp).
