SUMMARY:The Natty Surf Jam
DESCRIPTION:The Natty Surf Jam:\n\n\n01/04/2017 \n\n\nThe Natty Surf Jam is a one day charity surf festival\, hosting a Longboarding Competition at Fistral Beach followed by a night of live music at Whiskers Bar and Venue in Newquay\, Cornwall. \nThe event has been organized in memory of local surfer Nathaniel Loney\, who tragically took his own life last year after a long term battle with mental health illnesses at just 25 years old. His sister\, Meghann Loney\, decided to put on this event to commemorate him and to raise awareness of these issues in the hope of making a positive change within the local community. \nThe main goal of this event is to raise awareness and support for young people battling against mental health illnesses\, and to help them get appropriate treatment early. This year we are working with the local cornish charity ‘The Invictus Trust’ (http://www.invictustrust.co.uk) to help them achieve their goal of installing a treatment facility in Truro. \nWe also want to represent SOBS http://uk-sobs.org.uk \n– This organization offers support and counseling for families of loved ones after suicide and helps to walk them through the grieving process. \nThe Longboarding Competition will take place on Saturday April 1st at Fistral Beach\, and will be hosted by Christian Surfers UK http://www.christiansurfers.co.uk\nWe are also honored to have champion longboarders Ben Skinner “SKINDOG” and Adam ‘Bearman’ Griffiths on board\, who will be firmly behind this project and kindly showing their support of The Natty Surf Jam on the day. \nThe competition will have two main divisions: an Open Men’s and  Women’s longboarding competition. We are also running an ‘Expression Session’ between heats so that all board users can get involved\, as we want this event to be an inclusive\, eclectic celebration of surf culture\, not just Longboarding! \nEntry for the competition will be £20 per contestant and will include breakfast and lunch\, hot and cold drinks\, a free tee-shirt\, a professional chiropractor check-up/massage and also free entry the evening event at Whiskers which is ticketed at £8 in advance and £10 on the door. After covering costs all proceeds will be donated between the charities. Entry to the ‘Expression Session’ will be donation based on the day of the event on a first come first serve basis. \nTo level out the prize giving all competitors names will be put into a hat then drawn into fantasy surf teams with at least one professional or experienced surfer in each team. The team with the most collective scored points will win prizes from the sponsors. This way its fair on all ability levels of surfing. \nAfter the contest we have a host of great musicians/artists at Whiskers playing until late\, along with hosting the competition’s prize-giving. Musicians include Meghann Loney’s BBC award winning band ‘Wildwood Kin’ (a recent favorite of BBC Introducing)\, so don’t miss out on tickets! Here is a recent Video of them playing a brand new track for BBC Introducing at Maida Vale Studios http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04sdbw5 \nalong with their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/wildwoodkin \nWe also have booked Abbie Piper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzfTUTXS0kE\na local young musician from Saint Agnes to open the show before the presentations begin. We are in conversation with two more exciting acts to headline the show\, who will be announced over the coming weeks. \nHere is a link from where you can buy tickets: \nhttp://www.seetickets.com/tour/the-natty-surf-jam \nHere is a link for the competitors entry portal: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/natty-surf-jam-competitors-entry-portal-tickets-32232666774?aff=eac2 \nMore information or want to get involved or make a pledge then get in touch with the team. \nThe Natty Surf Jam Facebook Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1837432336470820/ \nSurf Jam Volunteers Facebook public group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1686231175008869/ \nWhisker’s music and presentation evening tickets: http://www.seetickets.com/tour/the-natty-surf-jam  \nThe competitors entry portal: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/natty-surf-jam-competitors-entry-portal-tickets-32232666774?aff=eac
