Lane Theatre are holding auditions Sunday 8th February 2pm for their Summer Season of plays:
Girl Band
by Louise Roche / Directed by Susie Bundy
3 female parts (acting age late 20’s late 30’s)
The action is skilfully and chummily with characters who can make you laugh and wow you with their singing even though their relationship with one another isn’t always smooth. As the story unfolds through a well-thought-out mix of conversation, monologues and songs, you will come to understand and indeed empathies with the reasons why
* Lois is so self-absorbed and status-driven,
* Sadie uses her sharp tongue and wit to mask a hard and tragic past,
* Good-natured Serena finds herself caught in the middle.
How they chose to deal with the resulting, inevitable breakdown in relations are skilfully delivered through a hilarious script. This takes place in the grotty backstage dressing room at the club. Each Friday the girls turn up, get ready, walk on stage to sing, to their club audience, get changed and go back home to face their problems. The girls are all best friends, and then, inevitably, men and children rear their ugly heads and begin to shape them. They still remain friends, but have secrets and tell lies to cover the secrets. At first, Lois is over the top and fussy, especially when given the lead singer role in The Diamonds, much to the disgust of the other two. But behind that façade is a lonely, sad woman who just wanted to be loved. And, as it turns out, it was that lead singer role that caused many problems and tore the girls apart, before, eventually, bringing them back together.
As you can imagine this is a very fast moving play, not for the faint hearted actor, you will need to age as the play progresses. There will be several quick costume changes from sparkling to drab and to amazing.
To audition you will need to sing one song that the character you are auditioning for sings. You can audition for more than one part. You must be willing to dance (if you can move and willing to be directed, we can teach you). There will be a narration piece for each character from the script as well as selected pages of script.
Serena ‘Beautiful’ Christina Aguilera/ The Way We Were’ Barbra Streisand
Lois ‘Stay with me Baby’ Ruby Turner / Who do you think you are’ Bo Donaldson
Sadie ‘Misty Blue’ Dorothy Moore / Shout’ Lulu
Group Man, I feel like a woman’ Shania Twain

The Second Summer play is a choice of two:
Looking for Love or Love and Money
– both written by Raymond Hopkins.
Both are extremely funny and will have the audience laughing all evening.
“Love and Money” has a cast of 8: 4 men and 4 women all different ages the play tells the tale of the Felton’s. Upon returning home they discover they have been robbed. Derrick Felton decides to exaggerate the cost of his insurance claim by stating that the items pinched were of a much higher quality and cost than they really are. Is this going to be a story of Rages to Riches?
The second play “Looking for Love” has a total cast of 9 : 4 men, 5 women of all different ages. After 22 years of marriage Molly’s husband walks out on her. After 4 months of being alone, she is at rock bottom a friend suggests that she tries a ‘miracle cure’ for abandoned wives, so she does. Will she transform herself?
