It was a true celebration of the start of the Big Summer Break at Wadebrige on July 24, 2011, but sadly the sun was missing. This didn't spoil the wonderful atmosphere at this great family fun day, organised by Cornwall Hospice Care. There were miles of smiles around the Royal Cornwall Showground to compensate for grey skies.
In fact the weather was probably perfect - no panting dogs at the Fun Dog Show, not too hot to enjoy delicious, freshly prepared Cornish snacks and certainly not too cold for ice creams!
The diversity of entertainment was such it was truly a wonderful day for the whole family - from cars to carousels, stalls to a spinning gyroscope, and enough cake stands and Cornish crafts to satisfy the hundreds of visitors who were there to support this much needed charity. There was even the opportunity to get your heirlooms valued or to invest in antiques of the future.
Cornwall Hospice Care’s It’s a Knock Out competition attracted many local teams and it wasn’t clear who was enjoying the contests more - the actual competitors or the audience. Good fun was had by all and well done to those who met the challenge and took part, raising heaps more money for the charity.
The Super Summer Lottery Draw took place in the afternoon, with Cornwall Hospice Care staff officiating but with help by a particularly ‘ansome chap and his woolly friend. Congratulations go to the winners.
Oll an Gwella, a small group of choiresters from Newquay Male Voice Choir, brought the Cornish shore to the Royal Cornwall Showground with some stirring and beautifully sung sea shanties.
It was undoubtedly a great day out for all the family to enjoy. Keep an eye out on our What's on in Newquay page for other events organised by this and other dedicated local charities.
