With his talented crew, Duncan - TV celebrity turned bold buccaneer – has created a tourist attraction fit for the 21st century in Cornwall‘s favourite seaside resort. This fascinating transformation featured as an episode in Virgin 1’s 2010 TV series Duncan Bannatyne’s Seaside Rescue broadcast earlier this year. Keep an eye out for repeats.
As reviews submitted to www.qype.co.uk (Europe's largest local review web site) show, it has proved to be a real winner - views echoed by Duncan and his family when he brought them to Buccaneer Bay on a surprise visit recently. We visited Buccaneer Bay in July 2010 with a party of 5 ranging in age from 10 to 45 and had a most entertaining time being led through the sunken village by the very fabulous Calico Jack.
Granted it isn't a large attraction, but the entertainment value more than makes it well worth a visit. A fabulous interlude was had by us all.

Buccaneer bay is amazing, i took the family there and the kids are still running around like pirates! its crazy. They had such a ball, thanks to everyone who made it so fun for them!!!
Calico Jack was a great guide/pirate. The kids just won't stop talking about him and repeating his stories lol!! I cant wait to get back there!!!
does anyone there recommend any good pirate activities or games, were trying to keep the kids amused but are running out of pirate ideas???? im sure anyone with children has had the same problem!!
they love games like buccaneersandlobsters.com, so anything like that would be great!!any ideas!!???and thanks again to all the pirates and staff who made it such a great day out for us :) :)

What an absolutely brilliant bit of fun!! Sort of Madame Tussauds does pirates!! Cap'n Calico led us through, telling the stories of Cornwall's history..mainly of plague, death, pilfering and rum...you know how pirates are...he was excellent!! I think every home should have their own Cap'n Calico!!
Our daughter, aged 6, was mesmerised and couldn't stop giggling after swearing the pirate's code and saying 'parle' like she was starring in the Pirate's of the Carribean films!! My two year old was a little weary of the 'scary man with a dirty face' but soon came around looking at the exhibitions and was totally thrilled at steering the Cap'n's wheel...I had to peel his fingers off it!!
I cannot express how lovely the staff/owners were, taking time to chat to the children both before and after we went through, and they seemed genuinely passionate about both the attraction and pirates.
The gift shop was great, although not massive, it catered for all ages and was very reasonably priced...my daughter was thrilled to have a 'gold' necklace with a Cornish Knocker pendant on it!! (less than £2!!).
I don't think it would be suitable for disabled access as we did go up...and back down..stairs a few times - probably best to contact them before making a visit. The exit weirdly came out of the side of the building so we had to go back in the front door to use the toilets & gift shop etc. No hardship for us, but it was down another flight of steps, elderly people may struggle a little.
I honestly must say it was a highlight of our week in Cornwall...and we visit several times a year, but would not hesitate on returning to Buccaneer Bay many times. Do take a look at their till...it wasn't working when we were there, but it was a work of art!!
Well done Buccaneer Bay - simply brilliant!!!!

We,my nephew of 12yrs and myself decided to visit as we had only been when it was Tunnels throughTime, but now as Buccaneer Bay the experince was much better. With 2 pirates to guide you round you took more notice of the legends of Cornwall.Taking in the knowledge rather than just reading what was printed. The staff as before were very friendly and chatty. You are made to feel like a long last friend. Not an all day outing an hour at the most, but it is still worth a look. And taking the Pirate Pledge makes you one of them! Lots of fun for pirates of all ages.

We visited Buccaneer Bay in May 2010 and had a great time. It is not very big inside so it does not take long to go round but what it lacks in size it more than makes up in entertainment value. The staff are friendly and helpful and the resident pirates make very entertaining tour guides.
The sunken village is atmospheric without being too scary for children. And Davey Jones is well worth a visit.
Buccaneer Bay is great value for money and is suitable for children of all ages. even those in their 30's and 40's

We visited Buccaneer Bay (previously called Tunnels Through Time) whilst staying with family. We took a 4 year old boy and a 5 year old girl, both of whom thoroughly enjoyed it. You can either wander through on your own, or as we did, be led by Calico Jack the pirate guide! He was actually excellent, telling the stories of Cornwalls past in a way that engaged both the adults and kids, cracking jokes and being generally piratey!
There is s slightly scarier section but with adults present it still wasn't too scary for the little ones, and adds a good entertainment portion to the stories that precede it.
The sets and scenes were pretty good, and it was fairly atmospheric for what it was. It's not very big inside, but just big enough that the kids won't get bored.
If they find the letters to make up the word of the day along the way they get to have a sweet 'treasure' at the end too, something else to keep them involved.
Some of the free local guide leaflets have money off vouchers too that make a good dent on the entry price. When we visited (April 2010) they only accepted cash or cheques too. There's a pay car park just over the road that gives quick access to one of Newquay's beaches too if you want something else to do afterwards.
If you go not expecting a day-long adventure but the interesting and entertaining diversion that it is, you won't be disappointed.
One final point, the staff there were lovely, very helpful and friendly.
I'd go back again.
